Summary
Germany wanted to invade Stalingrad because of the name "Stalin" and because of the oil fields of the Caucasus region. It began Sept. 1st, 1942. Germany captured most of the city, until Nov. 23rd, 1942, they got trapped in the city. Soldiers could not retreat, and if they did, Van Poulus (German Commander) ordered them to be shot.
