Hitler began by making a speech in a beer hall about how the government was not doing anything for the economy and was pretty much useless. His rise to power was greatly aided by the Great Depression, so just like Roosevelt, he provided jobs and employment for citizens whom were struggling. As Hitler was in election, he introduced the Brownshirts, which was massively based on Mussolini's Blackshirts, which were a group of men, employed to deliver violence and make it very difficult for others to run against him. Hitler was then asked to be the Chancellor of the Weimar Republic by the government to help fight against the running communist parties. The Brownshirts burnt down the Reichstag and blamed it on the communists; as a result, he passed the Enabling Act in 1933, allowing him to pretty have complete power with the aid of the government whom was on Hitler's side as well. As years passed, the government died, and Hitler from then on, had complete power to do everything he wanted; rise of the NAZI's.
In the first years of the Weimar Republic's existence, they faced two significant challenges: the 1919 Spartakist Uprising, and the 1920 Kapp Putsch. The Spartakist Uprising was a German Communist Party led by Karl Liebknecht and Rosa Luxemburg. This group made an attempt to take over Berlin in January 1919; as a result, they were brutally put down by an anti-revolutionary volunteer force called The Freikorps. The second challange Weimar Republic was faced with was the German workers doing a general strike known as The Kapp Putsch. On another note, Mussolini (founder of fascism) raised to power in Italy 1923, after the March on Rome. A new law was introduced, named "Acerbo Law" which was forced through parliament and guaranteed that the party with most votes would 2/3 of the seats in the Chamber of Deputies. By 1926, Mussolini has extinguished all anti-fascist parties, and eliminated freedom of press. Finally, through the Lateran Accords in 1929, Mussolini got recognition of Church as a legitimate leader; the Catholic Church was the biggest threat to Mussolini. Life is Beautiful is a movie based on the holocaust in Germany which came out in 1997. The main character (Guido) is a humorous Italian Jew who gets married to a women named Dora and eventually, they have a child named Joshua. They were living happily in their Italian town, until Nazi soldiers took them away to a death camp. Once there, the only way Guido was able to keep his son safe, was to use his humor and make Joshua believe he was in a game. As time went by, all the children were demanded to go take a "shower" and as a result, they were killed. However, Joshua did not like taking showers, so he ran back and hid in his bed. No more children were in this camp anymore, so Guido had to make Joshua hide as in hide-in-go-seek, the game in order to not get killed. Time went by in the Nazi death camp, and near the end of the holocaust, Nazis began to retreat the camp and kill whomever; as a result, Guido was killed trying to save his son whom was hiding in a box until no one was in sight. When the American soldiers came by, Joshua knew it was over, so he rid a tank past all the Jews in striped overalls, and saw his mom still alive. |
